In a very close and high-quality competition, Elena and Anton defeated the reigning world champions Mandy Wotzel and Ingo Steuer of Germany for the first victory of their partnership. Elena and Anton won both the short program and the free skate, with a five to two majority in the free skate. Included in their elements were side-by-side triple toe loops and double axels, throw triple loop, throw triple salchow, and (at last!) a cleanly landed triple twist. The scores they recieved included eight marks of 5.8 and three marks of 5.9.
